Exodus Web3 Wallet is a multi-chain, self-custodial wallet that lets you manage tokens, connect to dApps, view NFTs, swap assets, and interact with decentralized finance. This guide walks you through installation, account creation, security best practices, and first steps connecting to Web3 applications.
New users who want a friendly interface for Web3, or anyone migrating from another wallet and seeking concise, practical steps.
Exodus Web3 Wallet is available as a browser extension (Chrome, Brave, Edge). Visit the official Exodus download or Web3 Wallet pages to add the extension and follow prompts. After adding the extension, pin it to your toolbar for quick access.
Only download Exodus extensions from Exodus’ official site or the official browser store entry — avoid third-party mirrors.
When you first open the extension, choose “Create New Wallet” (or “Import” if restoring). You will be asked to set a strong password — this protects the local app and encrypts your keys.
Exodus may provide a recovery phrase or other recovery options. Write down the recovery phrase on paper and store it in a safe place — never store it in plain text on an internet-connected device.
If you lose your password but have your seed phrase, you can recover your wallet. If you lose both, funds cannot be recovered.
To receive tokens, open the asset in Exodus, click Receive, and share the address or QR code. Confirm the network is correct (e.g., Ethereum vs. Polygon) before sending.
Click Send, paste the recipient address, enter the amount, and confirm the network and fee. Double-check addresses — blockchain transactions are irreversible.
Exodus has built-in swap functionality (in-wallet swaps). Fees and rates vary — review them before confirming a swap.
When visiting a dApp, click the dApp’s “Connect Wallet” button and choose Exodus in the list. Approve the connection from the extension popup. For new dApps, review requested permissions.
After connecting, the dApp may request token approvals for spending. Limit approvals to the minimum required and revoke approvals later if not needed.
Never approve requests that look suspicious, or sign arbitrary messages that you don't understand.
Keep your device OS and browser updated. Use OS-level security features (PIN, biometrics) and avoid installing untrusted extensions.
Store seed phrases offline (paper, metal backup). Consider a hardware wallet for larger balances.
Exodus staff will NEVER ask for your private keys or seed phrase. Verify you are on official domains before entering sensitive information.
Use Exodus’ official support channels within the app or at their support site for account help. Never share your seed phrase with support or anyone else.
After setup, try connecting to a simple NFT marketplace or DeFi dApp in read-only mode to understand how connections and transactions work before depositing funds.
Consider integrating a hardware wallet (Ledger/Trezor) for extra safety, or using Passkeys / SDK features if you are a developer building dApp integrations.
